When I read Anne Rice's novel my first thought was they have to make this into a movie. My second thought was whatever director they get will only mangle and destroy this story. I was right on the first thought and wrong about the second. I absolutely loved everything about this movie. Funny I wanted my heart throb Ruetger Hauer to play Lestat, but I have to admit I was wrong about Tom Cruise. He made an excellent Lestat. Brad Pitt was perfect as Louie and a young new star Kristen Dunst was amazing as Claudia.

One of my favorite passages from this movie is when Louie described the last time he would see the sun:
"That morning, I was not yet a vampire and I saw my last sunrise. I remember it completely, and yet I can't recall any sunrise before it. I watched its whole magnificence for the last time as if it were the first. And then I said farewell to sunlight, and set out to become what I became".
