Dracula 2000

I really like it when a director or writer puts a new twist on my beloved Dracula. As in Bram Stroker's Dracula the film showed how Dracula came to be - torn by the church and the love of his life. In this version they show Dracula and Judas (yes the one who snitched on Jesus for some silver coins) are one in the same. Hence, silver bullets and anything christian are obstacles for Dracula. Interesting!  I thought the story was good and the photography was really good.

Of course you have the heroine, Mary Van Helsing (who has part of Dracula's blood in her) and Dracula's three brides. Dreams of the dark stranger plague Mary who knows he's after her soul.

Once Dracula's coffin is stolen from a high tech vault  he ironically ends up in New Orleans where Mary lives.                                                                                                                            dracfinger.jpg (41519 bytes)              4546_dra005.jpg (24474 bytes)

Gerald Butler is Dracula and he plays him seductively and in true fashion, a man of few words. His red eyes do most of the talking. Tormented Mary is played by Justine Waddell and does a outstanding job of being vulnerable and yet finds the strength to take on Dracula.

Some folks might not be crazy about this movie. I don't know what they are expecting. It has everything, a good story, blood, interesting characters, good photography and Dracula is played just the way he should be.

I was not disappointed.
